Currently kicking off is the 2017 Chicago Auto Show. And while many cars are on display, its somewhat difficult to say that anything groundbreaking has been shown off yet. Really, it seems almost as if the only thing that's worth mentioning so far about this year's Chicago Auto Show is the huge amount of "special/limited edition" cars that have been revealed. From Nissan's Midnight Edition package, which adds black rims, mirror covers, and other slightly unique features to some of Nissan's models, Chevy's Redline package, which will include red exterior accenting and black exterior trim on select models, Infiniti's Signature Edition QX80 and Q50, and even Jeep's Wrangler Rubicon Recon Edition with its beefier off-road ready suspension, every automaker seems to want you to feel "special" this year.
And let's not forget Toyota, who may possibly win this year's award for "most laziest refresh" with their 2018 Sequoia SUV. With the new 2018 Expedition coming soon (that's another topic entirely), you would think the company would want to roll out an all-new Sequoia to attempt to at least remain relevant in the full-sized SUV segment. But not necessarily, as new headlights is apparently all that's needed for this model that dates back to 2008 to remain afloat...
"Its a bold strategy Cotton, let's see if it pays off for them."
However, to Toyota's credit, the company does have a history of refreshing a car in the most basic way possible and having it still work out somehow. Additionally, Toyota is planning to offer a TRD version of both the Sequoia and Tundra pickup truck for 2018, too. Those models will likely appeal to individuals who are interested in a hint of performance/sport in their full-sized towing/family vehicle. But for those who are REALLY interested in performance in a family vehicle, look no further than the long-overdue Dodge Durango SRT, which can pull off four wheel burnouts! Performance of any kind has a price, however. So all of these models will most definitely be more expensive than their more regular counterparts.
Overall, the 2017 Chicago Auto Show has been somewhat dry to start out I feel, but I'll highlight some of the more interesting debuts throughout this week. What have you seen that you like so far? Stay tuned.
