G70 competes with cars like the BMW 3-Series. |
The 2019 Genesis G70 is the 2019
North American Car of the Year, beating the Honda Insight and Volvo S60/V60.
Standard is a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine with 252 HP, and available is a
3.3L twin-turbo V6 making 365 HP. Both powertrains, the 8-speed automatic
transmission, and G70’s platform are shared with the Kia Stinger, which was
nominated last year for COTY. G70 pricing starts at $34,900. I’m looking
forward to trying one of these sports sedans out for myself - very nice work,
Genesis!
While small in size, Kona packs
a lot into a compact package.

Hyundai’s new Kona/Kona EV
subcompact CUV won 2019 Utility of the Year, beating the Jaguar I-Pace and Acura
RDX - which cost significantly more. This further drives home Hyundai’s point
of delivering a lot of car for your money. Standard is a 2.0L four-cylinder
with 147 HP, and the EV model has a range of 258 miles. Hyundai called the Kona
“timeless and comfortable.” Pricing for the gas model begins at $19,240.

The Ram 1500 is more luxurious than ever,
and you really do feel it.

Winner of 2019 Truck of the Year
is the 2019 Ram 1500. It’s a nice ride, I’ve seen some at recent auto shows,
along with the trucks it beat - Chevy’s all-new 2019 Silverado and GMC’s
all-new 2019 Sierra. They’re decent enough, but Ram definitely took it to the
next level. Standard power comes from FCA’a 3.6L Pentastar V6, good for 295 HP.
48V mild-hybrid technology is available to assist fuel economy as well.
However, if you need more power
for towing capacity, look non further than the new Ram 2500 and 3500 models.
The Ram 3500 will offer up to a 7,680 payload rating and 35,100 pound towing
capacity with 400 HP and 1,000 lb.-ft. of torque! Insane! I intend to analyze a
new Ram 1500 when I have a chance. Grad school and work of course play a factor
in this process.
If you want a well-rounded,
powerful new vehicle, check out some of FCA’s recent products. They’ve
definitely got you covered.
Are You Surprised?
My congratulations goes out to
this year’s winners! Were you surprised by these results, or did you predict the
winners correctly? Personally, I predicted the Truck of the Year winner
correctly. But the Car of the Year and Utility of the Year awards are a surprise!
