Redline Approaching: Chevrolet’s New Special Edition Trim

Seeing Red

The term “redline” probably conjures up many different thoughts for people. Some may think of pushing their car nearly to its breaking point, while others may remember Saturn’s performance line of vehicles dubbed “Red Line”. Well, this new appearance package that will be offered on various 2017 Chevy models does not encourage spirited driving in any way. However, it does certainly makes the cars its offered on look more distinctive. Except for maybe the new 2018 Traverse, which looks a little more silly instead of sporty in my opinion…

This decision to release these special edition models dates back to 2015, when Chevrolet showed off their Red Line models at SEMA. Production models will all come with similar appearance upgrades, which are blacked-out headlights, red badging on the exterior, black Chevy bowties, darker colored door handles (on some models), black exterior mirror covers, black grilles and chrome trim, and perhaps the most distinctive feature, blacked out rims with a red stripe on them. Models that will be offered with the Redline package are the Camaro, Colorado, Silverado, Cruze, Malibu, 2018 Equinox, Trax, and the 2018 Traverse. The Camaro will get some additional unique exterior stripes, I’m guessing to bring it more in line with its SEMA 2015 Redline concept.

Pricing for this package hasn’t been released yet, but it will be available on nearly all LT trims of the aforementioned models, as well as the Camaro SS, Silverado Z71, and Traverse Premier models. It’s important to note, however, that the only colors you’ll be able to get this package in are red, silver, or black. So choose wisely. Don’t be surprised, but I’d be willing to bet that the only interior color you’ll be able to choose with this package is black, which would make this a true “blacked out” style package.

Personally, red would be my go-to color in these new Redline models.

What do you think about the new Chevrolet Redline models? Me personally, if my money was on the line, I would possibly get a red Redline Malibu. I do like the look of this package on several of the models it’ll be offered on. However, I’m disappointed that this appearance upgrade package is literally just that: Nothing but appearance. At least Saturn’s Red Line models offered more than just sporty looks… The term “red line” does sort of imply increased performance ability in some way after all. Even a minor suspension upgrade would’ve been nice. But oh well, maybe next time.
